Sorrow has a great refining influence on our sacred souls. As a young child, I once owned a huge stuffed animal named Fred. Fred was a white rabbit with a black nose and a pink bow. Fred had soft fur and felt like a pillow. My mother was an art teacher and had this big white rabbit as an example of how to draw something.
When my mother sat me down at the table to draw a picture of Fred, she drew him as a red bunny with a red nose and a black bow. My mother had taught me that the colors on my drawing mattered because they would determine how my picture turned out. Even though I loved my white rabbit as much as I loved my red bunny, I still let my mom teach me how to draw it differently.
I learned that just because something looks nice doesn’t mean it will turn out the way you want it to look.
